First meeting
I first met founders Rachel Anderson and Cis O’Boyle in 2019 when they approached my then employer for a brand identity. Idle Women is a arts and social justice endeavour primarily operating in Northern England.
I loved the project immensely, and it has been my privilege to continue contributing design work for a women’s collective interested in creating spaces for minority, and often vulnerable, women.

A sister identity: The Physic Garden
In 2024, Idle Women (IW) approached me to craft an identity for their Physic Garden.
The logo is inspired by the geometric lines and dots of the IW logo whilst interweaving botanical detail with ideas of connection and communal spaces.

Idle Women
I think conceptually the garden aligns well ... the stretching backwards and forwards in time and remaking connections that strengthen purpose and belonging – particularly in social justice work – we often talk about mycelium or rhizomes as invisible, essential structures that are overlooked but are now increasingly being seen as part of the solution (e.g. in environment recovery). Also thinking about health as systemic, constellations and systems.

Stadium for the Future, 2022
We both wanted the UI to invite exploration and a sense of casual browsing. Rather than being an itinerary of every holiday, we selected top highlights and included anecdotes on memorable events.

Women on the Water microsite, 2021
Commissioned to compliment a report for Canal and River Trust who invited Idle Women to look below the surface and into the realities of life by water for women. We used Notion and Super to host the microsite.
Reflection
Idle Women is the project I continue to talk about even as years pass – their work is truly something I am proud to be a part of.
